Born in Braunschweig, pianist Marie Rosa Günter is a versatile musician whose distinctive profile is shaped by artistic curiosity and spirit of discovery.
She studied at the Institute for the Early Advancement of the Musically Gifted (IFF) in Hannover with Prof. Matti Raekallio and Dr. Jelena Levit before completing a Soloist Diploma with Prof. Bernd Goetzke at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover (HMTM) and a Performance Diploma at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome under Benedetto Lupo. She regularly performs as a soloist with orchestras—including the Braunschweig State Orchestra, the Bodensee Philharmonie Konstanz, the Hannoversche Orchestervereinigung, the Louis Spohr Orchestra, the Wratislavia Chamber Orchestra, and the Dortmund Philharmonic—and has performed under conductors such as Christoph-Mathias Müller, Ari Rasilainen, and Martin Lill.
In addition, she has been invited to perform at renowned festivals, notably the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Sommerliche Musiktage Hitzacker, the Westphalian Music Festival in Hamm, the Ahrenshoop Chamber Music Days, and the Cervo Festival.
Her discography reflects both a profound engagement with the core piano repertoire and a commitment to rediscovering lesser-known works. The music of J.S. Bach has occupied a central place in her artistic development, leading to performances at festivals including Bachfest Leipzig, the Köthen Bach Festival, and the Würzburg Bachtage, as well as a recording of the Goldberg Variations. She is the winner of First Prize and the Special Prize for the highest score at the National Bach Competition in Köthen.
Released in 2023, her second solo album features works by Anton Webern and Ulrich Kallmeyer with Beethoven’s Hammerklavier Sonata. In his review on Piano News, Carsten Dürer described Günter as a "fantastic pianist," praising the album as "a magnificent recording that commands attention."
Alongside her solo career, chamber music forms an essential part of her artistic identity. Influenced by her studies at HMTM Hannover with Prof. Zvi Meniker, Prof. Jan Philip Schulze, and Prof. Markus Becker, she is equally at home in Lied, chamber music, and historical keyboard performance.
Together with cellist Stanislas Kim, she has won prizes at international competitions including the International Swedish Duo Competition and the Concours International de Musique de Chambre de Lyon. Their debut recording was nominated for the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik (German Record Critics' Award) in 2024. The duo has appeared at festivals including the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Cervo Festival, Palermo Classica, and Sommerliche Musiktage Hitzacker. Her chamber music partners have also included Trio Faust, the Kahlo Piano Quartet, Trio Ovide, and violist Benjamin Beck.
Marie Rosa Günter has received long-standing support from the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben and the Carl Bechstein Foundation.
Following four years as a member of the piano faculty at HMTM Hannover, she served until 2025 as Profesora Pianista Acompañante for Zakhar Bron’s violin class at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid.
From 2026, Marie Rosa Günter joins the Haute École de Musique Valais-Wallis in Sion as Maître d'enseignement du piano – 2e instrument.
